About The Game
Disconnected is an atmospheric side view game that focuses on style and feel to truely immerse the player. The story of the game follows a robot that breaks free from captivity and journeys to escape from the system that created it.
Why I Created Disconnected
During Semester 1 and 2 of my MA, I spent most of my time working on prototype games so for the final Semester I wanted to progress what I’d learnt into a full development cycle. I also wanted to take a step out of my comfort zone with designing games. I was used to creating charming and short arcade games so I really wanted to push myself creatively with this project.
Early on I knew I wanted to cover a theme that was personal to me. Disconnected follows the theme of Social Media and how excessive use can be damaging to people’s mental health. A lot of the aspects of the game are based around messages that I want people to hear. When playing the game, I hope the player connects with the robot that they control. I’d like them to understand the messages in the game and just like the robot, break free from the system.
